Exchange marriage (Watta Satta) is highly common in our society which involves simultaneous marriages of a brother-sister pair from two households. The narrative of ‘Nazdikiyaan’ is truly based on this subject matter where both brides suffer due to the reality check of this bride-exchange. This literal give and take between these two families not only creates troubles in both marriages but also brings a lot of compromises to save each other’s marital life from being affected.

Step mothers are known for their hatred towards their step children and it is a natural phenomena. ‘Soteli’ is a story about a boy Meekal who lost his mother at a very young age; his father Waleed married another woman Fariya thinking that she will fill the mother’s love. But nothing in this world can replace a mother’s love, it is irreplaceable. Fariya being the soteli gave a tough time to Meekal and he was helpless, his father didn’t support him unless the truth unveiled.

Meekal use to write letters for his mother thinking that his mother will read it but Waleed did. He being an innocent kid wrote all this feelings in those letters and his father came to know. Waleed insisted to file for a divorce but then Mannal came in their life and things change. Meekal loves his baby sister a lot and is ready to do anything for her but Fariya is not leaving any chance to make the loving siblings remember that they are step-siblings to each other.

In all this Fariya became sick and was admitted in the hospital with all the tests the doctors claimed that she has a brain tumor. Fariya was not stepping back with her hatred but Meekal always respects and loves her as his mother. He stayed back in the hospital the entire time and did whatever he could to comfort his mother. Fariya was not aware of her illness but when the doctor told her that she has a brain tumor she got shattered.

The family was there to support her regardless of all her evilness and rude behavior, above all Meekal never turned his back towards her and this melted her stoned heart. She for the first time hugged Meekal and this is an indication to the family to be once again happy. Falling in love is experienced my every individual but marrying the one you love is not in everyone person’s destiny. ‘Khuda Na Karay’ is a story about a girl Abrish who loves her father a lot, but a mistake changed everything in her life. Abrish’s father confirmed the relationship between Abrish and Babar who is Zaheer’s friend’s son.

Abrish was not ready to marry Babar because she loves Farhad but wasn’t brave enough to confess it in front of her father or sister. But eventually she did inform her sister but she told her to move on with their father’s decision. Farhad also tried to commit suicide when Abrish told him that she will say yes for the Nikkah but before she could sit for the ceremony she got to know about the suicide. On the actual day of the Nikkah Abrish refused for the Nikkah which resulted to her father’s insult.

Zaheer is shattered and is not talking to anyone he just wants to be left alone, he refused to eat or talk to anyone. He also blamed Abiha that she knew about it and didn’t mention it to her father, everyone is trying to explain Zaheer that it happened but yet his respect is the biggest thing in the world. On the other hand Farhad’s mother is also against the whole love but the youngsters are still stuck to each other.

Abiha’s relation is on a difficult phase now and the boy’s family is considerate thinking that Abiha also might do the same thing on the Nikkah day. Well the discussion is going on and nothing is stable except the love for each other found in the young couple. They all are praying for ‘Khuda Na Karay’ so that whatever positive points that they pray for come true and not the negative ones.

Upbringing the kid is all up to the mother and she is the foundation that a house is built on. ‘Parvarish’ is a story about a mother who is so involved in her social life and her social status that she is not able to give quality time to her children. Sundus, Rafay and Babar are siblings but they don’t have love in their relationship, they are just holding on to it because they are related to each other by blood  and no other reason.

Dilawaiz is not very happy with her husband neither with her kids; Noor got married to Rafay according to their father’s will that also Dilawaiz is against off. They both wanted Rafay to marry the girl of their choice but Rafay picked Noor as he likes her. Rafay is not very expressive about his feelings he gives Noor a tough time but yet deep inside he has a soft corner for her. Rafay is trying to protect her as much as he can so that she is not hurt by the mother-in-law.

Sundus is also not happy with her married life, her husband Rameez and mother-in-law gave her a hard time as well. Not to forget that Dilawaiz is against this marriage also, Sundus left her in laws and came back to the house and is not agreeing to go back, although Rameez is trying his best to bring Sundus back but the mother is not letting it happen.

It was Dilwaiz’s mistake of not paying attention to Sundus because unintentionally she diverted all her activities to her left hand which is not considered good. The mother-in-law kept taunting her for it and the poor soul couldn’t do anything about it. Watta Satta is when the marriages are done in exchange and in this often the marriages are not done wisely. Nudrat is getting married to the boy who is simple and innocent while Nudrat is the evil one, she is making a fuss about everything from the wedding dress to the choosing of the boy nothing that she is satisfied with. Whereas Saima who is a simple girl and does have the concept of compromise which is the second name for marriage.

Urooj is a selfless person because she lost her love yet she is able to stand up and smile, she came over to congratulate Saima who is marrying the one Urooj loves. With this heart break Urooj meets her love for the last time and losses hope by committing suicide. It is not easy to see the one you love deeply to marry someone else and to be okay about it, it is not present in the human nature.

Dayan rushed to the hospital to see what happened to Urooj but too late before she left him and expired. Pakistan and India has always been in the war state and never put their hands forward for friendship, if they did, that was also just for the sake of it. If we compare the Pakistani cinema to Bollywood it is more glamorous, experienced and know what they are doing. When we see the latest releases like ‘Waar’ ‘Operation 021’ and even the so-called hit ‘Na Maloom Afraad’ don’t you think they all have glimpses of Political factors in it. Yes they do, this is what every Pakistani is seeing and it is not even close to entertainment. Therefore there was one song ‘Billi’ in ‘Na Maloom Afraad’ which actually made a difference and had a factor of entertainment for the viewers.

With the rest of the releases in Pakistan which are the Bollywood and Hollywood movies they tend to gather more audiences towards it and the viewers like it more. For example the latest release of Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Happy New Year’ we see that it was a complete entertainment package for the viewers on the special occasion of Diwali whereas on Eid we get to see ‘Operation 021’ which is a dark movie and would make you depressed. It only showed firing, fighting and all that would make a viewer get uncomfortable.

The audiences want to get happy when they watch a movie and Shaan failed to deliver it for his audiences. His ‘Operation 021’ was a complete flop and he is reluctant about it. Looking at ‘Happy New Year’ success Shaan wants Shah Rukh Khan to make movies in Pakistan and that will be the proper way to revive the cinemas because the efforts that they make are important but it’s high time to take huge steps. Glamour is an important part of the films which our productions miss on, for example we can talk about ‘Jeeto Pakistan’ it is doing better than any other live show in Pakistan why, because they have the glamour factor it.

They have their interesting games but Fahad Mustafa often invites celebrities to the show so that people get excited and enjoy it. ‘Happy New Year’ was also the same way it shows respect for India to its core while we are only showing the negativity. It has glamorous songs and the clothes which all add to the oomph factor. Whether it is their songs or the environment it was very pleasant to watch. Actor Shaan Shahid has invited Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan to make a film in Pakistan, and become a global ambassador for art without boundaries.

Whatever script Pakistan had they were making art films like ‘Bol’ ‘Khuda Kay Liye’ which were a tremendous hit and the people liked. Although they based on realities of our life yet the viewers accepted it. Shaan who has made his name in the Pakistani film industry is trying to leave a mark so that the cinema is in a running condition and he is ready to do anything for it.

Shaan wants SRK to make film in Pakistan and we hope that this initiate comes true which will be good for both India and Pakistan and we would hopefully produce better movies.

When a girl reaches to her blooming age, the family and the people around her start pressurizing her to get married and it is experienced with most of the girls. ‘Main Bushra’ is a story about a girl whose father is not at all supporting her; he has doubts over his daughters all the time and they tired of proving themselves. He is cursing all of them that why he didn’t have sons but he acts as if the daughters themselves came to this world. Bushra is trying to be her father’s son and is trying her best to support her family.

From working in the office till the financial issues she is facing them all but still the father is being cruel, while creating problems for all. Bushra’s boss’ relative Faraz likes Bushra and his mother wants them to get married. She took the proposal to Bushra’s house but due to their social status Bushra’s parents have not replied it with a yes.

Bushra herself does not like Faraz but still she doesn’t mind marrying him but the father is questioning her. He thinks that Bushra asked Faraz’s mother to come with the proposal but in real all this happened on its own. Everyone is forcing Bushra’s mother to get her married but the parents are in the thoughts of dowry as they can’t afford it.

Love can over-come hatred one day or the other but it will take its own sweet time. ‘Soteli’ is a story about a boy Meekal who lost his mother at a very young age and his father Waleed married the second time with Fariya. Waleed thought that bringing a mother in Meekal’s life would be better for him but it was the other way round. Fariya acted like a typical step-mother and tortured Meekal to the core she would scold and hit Meekal for no good reason but eventually karma returned to her.

Waleed came across Fariya’s doings and he was planning to divorce her but then the new born Mishal held them together. The new born had spread love and affection all over the house yet Fariya didn’t mellow down with Meekal. All this behavior of her step-mother made Meekal get distant from the family and he shifted to a boarding school. 15 years later the family reunites where their problems become different, love, marriage and emotions is what the youngsters were thinking about.

Mishal wants to marry Ali while Fariya was not letting it happen in all this fight and chaos Fariya got diagnosed with a tumor. Regardless of Fariya’s bad behavior with Meekal he still stood with his step-mother the entire time. He took care of Fariya in every way possible and this melted Fariya’s stoned heart. She wasn’t aware of her sickness but when the doctor told her about her report and how Meekal took care of her this made Fariya hug Meekal.

All the hatred went away and Fariya agreed to let her children get married to the person of their choice but yet Meekal had to face some troubles. Mishal and Ali were all set to get engaged but after Meekal’s wedding but Nyle wants marry Emaan. Meekal and Emaan both like each other but Emaan’s parents are pressurizing her to marry Nyle. She confronted Meekal but due to his honest friendship he stepped back and let Nyle marry his love.

Emaan was very upset but then Nyle played a prank and made his best friend get married. He asked a girl to make a fake phone call by his fake his wife being in London so that he could naturally get out of the way. Exactly ten years ago, the famous choreographer Farah Khan made her directorial debut with ‘Main Hoon Na’, starring Shah Rukh Khan and gave a major career boost to many names associated with it. Farah Khan teams up back again with Shah Rukh Khan for the third time, with yet another multi-starrer ‘Happy New Year’. In a nutshell, ‘Happy New Year’ is a film about the characters that are referred as losers and their mission is to pull off the biggest diamond theft ever. With a runtime of almost 3 hours, does the film manage to live up to the hype and expectations, let’s analyze.

All the characters have their own stories and reasons to be a part of this mission, but you will love each and every one of them. From Mohini’s (Deepika Padukone) English speaking to Nandu’s (Abhishek Bachchan) snake dance you will enjoy every bit of it. The movie is a complete entertainment and not a single second of boredom. The film starts off with a world dance championship finale, wherein ‘Team India’ goes missing. Team India is led by Chandramohan Manohar aka Charlie (Shah Rukh Khan), whose ‘entry’ is shown in an illegal kick boxing match.

His partners in crime are: A partially deaf Jaggu (Sonu Sood) who is an ex-army bomb squad member, a self confessed Parsi ‘stud’ Tammy Irani (Boman Irani) who is an expert at opening sophisticated lockers and who carries a mini supermarket in his bag, a young hacker Rohan Singh (Vivaan Shah) who is a ‘loser in real world, Nandu Bhide (Abhishek Bachchan) whose ‘USP’ is that he can puke anytime, anywhere, and then there’s Mohini (Deepika Padukone), who is a bar dancer with a dream of opening a dance school for young girls.

To execute this plan however, the team needs to participate in the ‘World Dance Championship’ which takes place in the Atlantis hotel, exactly where Charan will be keep the diamonds for a one day display in Dubai. Charlie and his team enroll in this competition and despite all the boys being non-dancers, they use their antics to survive amongst the best dancers in the world. The team members are all aged comparing to the other participants but due to hacking they won the auditions and got a step closer to the diamonds.

Will Charlie and his ‘Team India’ be able to steal the diamonds? Will they be able to win the dance championship despite being non-dancers? To get your questions answered watch ‘Happy New Year’ and treat yourself with the entertainment factor in it. The music of the film (Vishal-Shekhar) is indeed one of the film’s major highlights. Most of the songs seem to be apt for the film’s situations and helps in moving the story forward. With ‘Lovely’ Nonsense Ki Night’ ‘Satakli’ all will be in your playlist for some time.

 The makers have spared nothing to make the film look extravagant and visually stunning. All in all, ‘Happy New Year’ is definitely a smashing hit, which has blockbuster written all over it.

I don’t normally watch Pakistani dramas as most of them showcase a woman’s character in a rather sensationalized demeanor. However, there are a few exceptions. Nowadays it’s all about an evil mother-daughter pair constantly conspiring against the third party or should I say, ‘mother-in-law.’

I haven’t seen a single newcomer in Pakistan’s film industry. It is either Moammar Rana in a television show or Shaan Shahid in almost “all” the Lollywood movies. Having said that, I recently came across a thriller drama entitled ‘Chup Raho’ that airs on ARY Digital every Tuesdays at 8:00 PM. The show stars Sajal Ali, Jibran Syed, Feroze Khan and Arjumand Rahim. ‘Chup Raho’ focuses on the life of an innocent young woman, Rameen (played by Sajal Ali) who is sexually abused by her brother-in-law. She is forced to keep silent by her mother and has no one to turn up to.

Although the drama is not as high-tech as compared to the rest of the shows but it certainly has a catchy story line. Unquestionably, ‘Chup Raho’ is the only drama currently on air that sheds light on a very important social issue such as sexual abuse. I am certain that some people would be rather familiar with this phrase but most natives residing in the rural districts of Pakistan have no idea what ‘abuse’ really means. Even if I were to enlighten them about this serious matter, I am certain they would say ‘Chup Raho’ to my face. Oh well!

We, being the citizens of Pakistan, ought to educate ourselves about such critical affairs. If I were to talk about sexual abuse with my friends, I am sure most of them would turn their backs on me.  But sexual abuse has no boundaries. People often envision a girl being strangled by a man when the issue of sexual abuse is highlighted. Nowadays, it’s the other way around.  Young boys are being raped and abused by mid aged men. The sad thing, however, is that we neglected such bitter realities while juggling our own problems.

We, as humans, have failed to consider sexual abuse as a social concern. If a young girl or a boy is raped by a mid aged man, our people would never exhibit their sentiments on a media platform. They would probably be more concerned about their self-respect and dignity. But what about those victims who have been abused?  Are they some cheap toys who rapists can easily play with? Aren’t they entitled to justice?  I strongly believe that an issue as important as sexual abuse shouldn’t be outlawed from our society.

Instead of catching the culprit, we hold our loved ones responsible for the whole situation. This is indeed, unfair for the person who has been sexually abused. For those who have not seen ‘Chup Raho’, I strongly recommend you watch this drama. It is gradually pacing up every week. Being a supporter of child abuse and sexual harassment, I believe our people should enlighten themselves about such an issue. If we fail to address it, then we don’t deserve to call ourselves human beings.

Pakistani superstar Fawad Khan, has earned enough fame in India for his performance in ‘Khoobsurat’ got his first award in Bollywood. Fawad won the category of ‘Fresh Face of the Year 2104’ whereas Bollywood diva Kareena Kapoor Khan won ‘Glam Icon of the Year’ and Sania Mirza got ‘Sportsperson of the Year’ awards. Love is a beautiful feeling and when your interest loves you back that is the best feeling in this world. Not many experience this feeling and those who do are the lucky ones on this earth. ‘Shikwa’ is a story of a struggling family facing the harsh realities of life and one of them is love. Meher spoke to Feroz who is the teacher yet she didn’t agree with the marriage of such a huge age difference. With lots of consoling Meher thought about her past when her mother wasn’t agreeing with Meher to marry the one she wants so she didn’t want her daughter to face the same thing.

She let Maria marry the professor who is of her choice and they love each other, but then Feroz was leaving for USA but then he came back to finish his love story and marry the one he loves. Marriage is an important phase in one’s life and no one can run away from it and when you love someone it is really difficult to stay away from that person. ‘Haq Meher’ is a story about two lovers who are deeply in love with each other but due to both the families the lovers are not allowed to meet. Love can make anyone lose their mind and get out of control and the same happened with these two young lovers. They started to lie to their parents and meet each other without letting anyone know about it and this lead to physical interaction between the two.

It is a fact that before marriage when one gets physical with the lover it makes the couple lose interest in one another and this couple experienced it.  The two started fighting and they lost respect for each other, and this affected the respect that the youngsters had for their in-laws. Sultana is creating grudges against both the families and this is creating a lot of hassle. Tahira who is Shariq’s mother had an argument on the topic that was made up by Sultana and this lead to Tahira being admitted in the hospital.

Shariq was very upset and because of that he fought with Hira including her father as well and due to this the father broke Hira’s cell phone and laptop so that she is not in contact with the misbehaving son-in-law. Hira is very upset and is not doing anything except thinking about Shariq and his ruthless behavior but yet love is blind and she is waiting for Shariq to contact back. Sultana sent her daughter to keep an eye on Hira and she is not at all comfortable about it. The haq meher issue is never ending and both the families on and off discuss over this matter.

Families support each other as much as they can but no one is willing to support Rameen who has been a victim of her very own brother-in-law. ‘Chup Raho’ is a story about a young girl Rameen who has been raped by her own brother-in-law and none of her family members are supporting her. Numair got caught when we was torturing Rameen but he played it very well. He made up a story and showed Rameen to be at fault, he said that Rameen messaged from Mannal’s phone saying to come back home whereas all this was done by Numair. He hid the phone from Mannal and played this game to make Rameen feel bad about her existence. Rameen was out loud about the rape that happened but yet Numair didn’t let it affect him neither his marriage.

Although Mannal got angry and called her mother back to Karachi yet the mother was also not on Rameen’s side. But Numair was acting it all up and didn’t leave any room for doubt in Mannal’s heart. He is very smart and knows how to cover up his mistakes.The entire family including Aazhar and the rest everyone is against Rameen and is treating her as if she has a mental disorder. At the very first episode of the drama we see that Bushra had a dream that on the wedding night her husband divorces her and it comes true.

Watching the first episode and the actual wedding day was completely same from the wardrobe to the dialogues and everything was identical. On asking the reason of Faraz’s behavior he said that he took revenge from his mother. Faraz loved Sara since ten years and unluckily she was the daughter of the man who left Faraz’s mother one month before their wedding. So on that the mother took revenge on Sara by refusing for the wedding one week before the big day and this result to Sara’s death.

Having a controlled life while your parents are monitoring it is not that something a youth is looking for. Every youngster wants to explore their life and see what they can do with this blessing. Mrs Imtiaz tired to save Omer so that he could go and pursue his dreams but Mr Hashmi didn’t let it happen and due to his anger he fired Mrs Imtiaz. But Mrs Hashmi is kind enough and she tried her best to make Mrs Imiaz stay back as she has worked for 17 years and it’s not correct to just let her go.

This is a fact that one gets easily attracted to happy-go nature-d people and the same thing happened with Omer. Although Mohni did insult him on National Television about their first meeting over the artist’s painting yet this was an attraction that made Omer talk to Mohni. Omer is skipping work to meet Mohni and eventually this will lead to love which will be difficult for both of them as they belong to different social status. On the other side Mr Hashmi wants Omer to marry Zara but Omer is not at all interested about it.

One can never get happiness by making another person sad. ‘Arranged Marriage’ is a story about Ahmed and Roshanay who tied a knot in an arranged marriage but Ahmed chased his love Meeral and karma came back. Karma always comes back Meeral and Ahmed played this on Roshanay so Meeral had to face a miscarriage which leads her to the position where she cannot become a mother ever again.

After she would hear this news she got an attack and she is paralyzed but yet Roshanay keeping all her grudges aside took care of Meeral. Ahmed is guilty and asks for forgiveness from her but Roshanay being the kind hearten forgave him without any complications. Ahmed asks forgiveness from his mother as well and he tries to fix everything, his feelings for Roshanay starts o develop and eventually Roshanay gives birth to a baby girl.

Meeral is all paralyzed and has nothing left in her life, but Roshanay makes her feel better by telling her that this baby girl belongs to both of them. This made Meeral happy and the entire family leads a happy life.
