Rani-Pulpy

Minute Maid Pulpy has been rebranded into Rani Pulpy for the summer of 2015. Coca Cola company acquired half of equity of Aujan Industries’ beverage business in December 2011.

Through a mix of sheer marketing genius and creative innovation, this acquisition was announced via a TVC that banked on the ‘Tabdeeli’ slogan. The slogan is a common one in Pakistan these days, owing to the demand for a reformed structural change in the country’s political, administrative system. Cleverly utilized, this slogan is placed on TV screens as breaking news, also to highlight the fact that it is an announcement. The reason ‘Tabdeeli’ or the slogan of change has been picked to announce this launch is due to the fact that it is resonates with the popular sentiments of Pakistani people. Throughout the year, change is what everyone talks about and lends an attentive ear to. Hence, the announcement of Minute Maid Pulpy undergoing a change or revamp in the form of Rani Pulpy has been accompanied with the slogan of change. It caters to both pivotal aspects of human interests; humor and the desire for change.

Rani enjoys the status of being one of the most favored drinks in the Middle East. It is also the flagship brand of Aujan Industries. Owing to to its stellar quality and rich, exotic taste, Rani has registered a tremendous growth in sales at Middle East, North Africa, Europe and other export markets.

Javed Sheikh: The Legend who stood by us

Javed sheikh

Pakistan’s film industry has been a rocky road from the 1980s on-wards, sadly the slow disintegrating of our industry was unfortunately a reality which Pakistan was facing. During this time legends came and went. Actors, actresses, singers, directors and musicians who had formed a relationship with the film industry had come and left and some even after only a few years. One though who didn’t leave who stood by the industry and even attempted to change its destiny by rejecting films and creating and making a difference where he could, Javed Sheikh.

In the early 80s Javed Sheikh appeared a young boyish actor starring opposite film greats like Salma Agha in ‘Bobby’ and Anjuman in ‘Mehndi’, he mimed to singers like the great Ghulam Ali and danced with Anjuman to songs of Madam Noor Jehan, he married the dazzling Neeli and he ventured into direction making his mark on cinema, when cinema was ready to be buried he gave cinema a life line.

As Pakistani cinema took a turning for the worst with audiences being given the same gandasa culture films that they had rejected Javed Sheikh saw a slow demise of our industry and attempted to give back to the industry that had made him who he was so other then acting in films he sat in the directors chair creating cinematic greats for Pakistan.

In the early 90s he directed Mushkil a tale starring his younger brother Saleem Sheikh and then wife Neeli. The film can be remembered mostly for the amazing melodies which echoed from rickshaws and shops at the time including the famous “Dil Ho Gaya Hai Tera Deewana” and “Mushkil Hai Bara Mushkil Hai.” One of the amazing thing about the film other then the sweet story-line was the return of famous singer Mehnaz Begum one of the foundations of the Pakistani film music.

While Mushkil continued to serve its purpose as a film reviving and maintaining Urdu cinema, Javed Sheikh gave us Chief Saab, another film from the nostalgic 90s starring Javed Sheikh, Neeli, Saleem Sheikh and a brand new actress Meera. The film once again was a hit and the music was just as big a hit featuring musical greats like “Chief Saab” by Sajjad Ali and “Jaaga Hai Jaaga” by the legendary duo of Waris Baig and Shazia Manzoor.

Even before Chief Saab had completely stopped showing in cinemas Javed Sheikh was all set to release Yes Boss starring the one and only Resham, another film which made its mark at a time when cinema was almost at the peak of its decline. A year later Javed Sheikh gave us Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye once again starring Resham. The film will forever be remembered as having the song “Kaun Hai Woh Kahaan Hai Woh” by Shazia Manzoor.

By the end of 90s Javed Sheikh gave us another hit ‘Mujhe Jeenay Do’ starring Meera, Sana and Baber Ali, the film was a different film in the sense that it focused on Meera being an assassin forced to kill for Javed Sheikh, a complete different film from what we had seen being churned out from Pakistan prior to this. The film was complemented with songs by Waris Baig and Shazia Manzoor and even contained an item number “Dekho Dekho Bijli Ke.”

Yeh-Dil-Aap-Ka-Huwa

In the early 2000s Javed Sheikh released ‘Yeh Dil Aap Ka Huwa’, a milestone for Pakistan as it was one of the first films to have been made in up to date digital technology, the film starred Moammer Rana and Sana in lead roles alongside Saleem Sheikh, Baber Ali and Veena Malik. The film was one of the few films in Pakistan that had openly used Bollywood singers as playback singers in a Pakistani film, previously this had been done very few times mostly in films by Shazad Gul. The film was a hit all over Pakistan and an even bigger hit abroad as the film was released in the UK, the USA and also in the UAE. Another first for Pakistan as after a gap of almost 30 years a Pakistani film was being released in international cinemas.

Later on in mid 2000s Javed Sheikh made ‘Khulay Aasman Ke Neeche’ a soft story starring Meera, Sana and Saleem Sheikh, by which time though cinema in Pakistan was beginning to wake up. The films that Javed Sheikh made were continuously hits and had continued featuring a trend of artists and story-lines typical of Sheikh saab. He continually used the late Amjad Bobby as music director for his films and this added to the success of many of his films.

Na Maloom Afraad

As cinema and films in Pakistan evolved so did Javed Sheikh, after working in several Bollywood films he returned to Pakistan to continue his work for Pakistani cinema. In 2013 Javed Sheikh feature  in Humayun Saeed’s ‘Main Hoon Shahid Afridi’ and in 2014 Nabeel Qureshi an upcoming director released his feature film ‘Na Maloom Afraad’ also starring Javed Sheikh. Javed Sheikh is also going to be featured in several upcoming Pakistani films including Wrong Number an upcoming film starring Danish Taimoor and being directed by Yasir Nawaz, ‘Bin Roye’ another upcoming film from Hum Films starring Mahira Khan and Humayun Saeed and ‘Karachi Se Lahore’ starring Ayesha Omar and Shahzad Sheikh.

I was inclined to write a piece on how much of a legend Javed Sheikh is due to a comment I read on social media against Javed Sheikh. Javed Sheikh is a legend and one of the few legends who stuck by the Pakistani film industry even when it was almost finished, it is due to efforts made by legends especially like him that we have a film industry today. We should never criticize his efforts for Pakistani cinema rather we should rejoice that we have a legend like him.

lollywood

With the earlier months of the year deeming to be quite slow in the release of notable films in Pakistan, it seems between May and September we have a great line up of films made by Pakistan and releasing in Pakistan in 2015. If you’ve seen the trailers of the films awaiting release in 2015 you may have realized a huge amount of potential and talent awaiting appearance on our big screen but if you cant find a reason to got to the cinema, below are a list of the our top 10 reasons to turn to Pakistani cinema in 2015!

Dekh Magar Pyar Se10. Sikander Rizvi – Other than being the grandson of the Malika E Taranum of Pakistan Madam Noor Jehan and the owner of Xander’s restaurant in Karachi, Sikander is the male lead debuting in his first ever film, opposite Humaima Malik in the upcoming romcom ‘Dekh Magar Pyar Se’, the film is being slated for an August 2015 release. The grandson of Madam Noor Jehan is a delight to the eyes, teamed up with a great story, Humaima Malik and set in the cultural heart of Pakistan, Lahore, Sikander Rizvi becomes number 10 on our list of top 10 reasons to turn to Pakistani cinema in 2015!

The actor recently appeared in a cameo role for a feature length film Abdullah, which even made its way to the glittery screens of the Cannes Film Festival. Imran has a small role but it will be his first appearance in a Pakistani film, hopefully his first stepping stone into the Pakistani film industry with many more hit films to come. This puts Imran Abbas at number 9 on our list of top 10 reasons to turn to Pakistani cinema in 2015!

Swaarangi

8. Resham, the famous actress who debuted in the mid 90s opposite Baber Ali in Syed Noor’s Jeeva and since then has a long list of hit films to her name including Dupatta Jal Raha Hai, Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye and Ghunghat. With TV turning into her forte, Resham finally returns to the silver screen with ‘Swaarangi’ a social drama also starring Ayub Khoso. With a gap of almost 6 years this will be Resham’s comeback film making her number 8 on our list of top 10 reasons to turn to Pakistani cinema in 2015!

Wrong Number7. Danish Taimoor. If you had the chance to watch the hit Pakistani film ‘Jalaibee’, you would have noticed how Danish Taimoor had turned from a hopeful romantic from the drama industry to muscly badman in the film industry. But in his next feature length film of 2015, (Wrong Number) Danish Taimoor takes on yet another look as a wanna be actor, from the trailer his acting looks typically on point with even a glimpse of a little bit of a hidden dancer. This puts Danish Taimoor on number 7 on our list of top 10 reasons to turn to Pakistani cinema in 2015!

Jawaani Phir Nahi Aani6. Hamza Ali Abbasi is the controversial actor/political worker whose remarks regarding item numbers landed him in hot water, with backlash from colleagues and fans, Hamza had to make constant remarks both on TV shows and via social media to clear his stance on items numbers. He was even further hit with even more controversy when the trailer of his upcoming film ‘Jawani Phir Nahin Ani’ was released. A fun packed film focusing on four friend including Hamza Ali Abbasi, who is seen topless emerging from a pool in the trailer. It would be interesting to see how much his stance on item numbers stands during this film, putting Hamza Ali Abbasi at number 6 on our list of top 10 reasons to turn to Pakistani cinema in 2015!

3 bahadur5. ‘3 Bahadur’, the creation of the one and only Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, Pakistan’s Oscar Winner. The first ever Pakistani animation film look extremely promising. 4. Sohai Ali Abro the baby faced actress who featured in hit drams including Khoya Khoya Chand and Pyare Afzal is now coming to Pakistani cinemas in Yasir Nawaz’s ‘Wrong Number’. Other than being and extremely talented actress Sohai Ali Abro is quite the dancer, if you have ever been lucky enough to see some of her performances especially at some of our leading awards shows you will see why so many are mad over Sohai Ali Abro. As far as dancing in her upcoming film is concerned Sohai Ali Abro will be featured in a hit dance number called ‘Selfiyaan’, with the huge craze surrounding selfies today teamed with the hit dancing of Sohai Ali Abro this is enough reason to put Sohai Ali Abro at number four on our list of top 10 reasons to turn to Pakistani cinema in 2015!

ho maan jahan 3. Adeel Hussain the talented actor who delivered to us amazing pieces of television in dramas such as Shakk and Mera Naseeb is finally making his way to the silver screen, after giving a slight clue with regards to his upcoming projects on Mahira Khan’s Show TUC The Lighter Side of Life, Adeel expressed his desire to do good work in Pakistani films, and as far as good work is concerned it seems he has hit the right chords as he will be appearing in two major films of 2015. Based on their trailers Adeel will feature in Momina Duraid’s ‘Bin Roye’ and Asim Raza’s ‘Ho Mann Jahaan’. With two of Pakistan’s biggest directors and two of Pakistan’s most anticipated films Adeel has made his mark as number 3 on our list of top 10 reasons to turn to Pakistani cinema in 2015!

Karachi_se_Lahore2. Ayesha Omar will forever be known as Khoobsurat, the evangelical wife of N abeel in the hit TV comedy Bulbulay, but is breaking this stereotype and will be making her first film debut in 2015 with the release of Wajahat Rauf’s Karachi Se Lahore! The films trailer has garnered a huge amount of support recently as it features the two biggest and famous cities of Pakistan, doubled up with a road trip and a hit cast. Ayesha is seen at the end of the trailer dancing away to a hip dance number “Tooty Fruity” which according to media sources she also sung herself. The song had been choreographed by famous dancer Wahab Shah and is a treat to the eyes. Ayesha Omar’s singing and dancing tag team in Karachi Se Lahore puts her at number 2 on our list of top 10 reasons to turn to Pakistani cinema in 2015!

And finally number 1, Mahira Khan! The Humsafar superstar who made her name for being the damsel in distress in Humsafar but instantly won every viewers hearts with her heart wrenching cries is featuring in two major films in 2015. After her supporting role in ‘Bol’, Mahira will be sporting the main role in both films Ho Mann Jahaan and Bin Roye. If you have seen the trailers of ‘Ho Mann Jahaan’ and ‘Bin Roye’ you will see that Mahira is quite the dancer and by far one of the most perfect faces to represent Pakistani cinema. With both films featuring huge name directors Mahira seems to be the most promising star to have come out of Pakistan’s booming new film industry, with huge names joining her including Sheheryar Munawar Siddiqui, Adeel Hussain and Humayoun Saeed, both films look promising even more so that Mahira Khan is the lead actress in both. Due to this it is definite that Mahira Khan is number 1 on our list of top 10 reasons to turn to Pakistani cinema in 2015!

Chup Raho – A must watch drama!

chup raho

Dramas on small screens are an intricate part of daily life for layperson, specifically in South Asian nations where small screens are dominated by dramas. The focal point of the The ARY Digital drama ‘Chup Raho’ was to openly bring to discussion the issue of “Sexual Abuse” and the consequences of maintaining silence against such a social evil.

Stories like this easily reach out to rural people and enlighten youth. Story line very well depicted the message of karma, “What goes around, comes around. What goes up, must come down.” You really love to hate Numair, his psychopath and perv personality and feel surging anger against blind wife like Manal. Rameen shows a strong moral character of woman and her faith in lord.

Aazar, however being shown as a dedicated lover in beginning surfaces as an obtuse man of weak vein. The most rational character found in this story is Shiraz, a man crushed by his wife’s death who maintains a purity of character towards Rameen and womankind in general. Dadi and the three little girls are a medium to bring smiles on audiences’ face.

Collectively, dialogue delivery by all the actors is amazing. My favorite dialogue is from Rameen. Some of them are, “If I accept a mistake means I do not believe in justice from God. Why should I accept a mistake if I didn’t do anything wrong.” “Abba kehte hein sach ka rasta mushqil hota hein, lekin akhir mein jeet sach ki hoti hein.” “Insan uski bardaasht karta hein, jiske liye uske dil me koi mohabbat ho, aur mere dil mein tumhare liye na hi koi muqaam hein na hi koi izzat.”

Message:

Keep on producing such dramas. Good luck!

The Holy month of Ramadan

shan-e-ramzan 2015

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar which is usually 29 or 30 days long. This month has great significance with the sighting of moon. When the new moon is sighted, Ramadan begins from the sunset, but from the next dawn fasting starts as well.

The Significance of Ramadan and Fasting:

Allah says in the Quran:
‘O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, even as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may attain God-consciousness. (2:183)

Accordingly, the month of Ramadan is called the Holy month or the month of the Quran; therefore, Muslims have tradition of reciting Quran frequently in this month.

“In the month of Ramadan, the Quran, a book of guidance with proofs of guidance distinguishing right from wrong, was revealed. Therefore, whoever of you is present in that month let him fast. But who is ill or on a journey shall fast a similar number of days later on. Allah desires your well-being, not your discomfort. He desires you to fast the whole month so that you may magnify Him and render thanks to Him for giving you His guidance.” 2:185

Fasting:

Fast begins from dawn and ends with sunset on the same day, during this period the believer is not allowed to eat or drink. Muslims rise before dawn, eat Sehr (pre-dawn meal) and drink liquids for the preparation of fast. Eating and drinking stops at dawn and during the day no eating, drinking or sexual activity is allowed. In addition, a Muslim must follow the moral code of Islam very strictly as it is one of the requirements of fasting.

Fasting in the month of Ramadan is one of the deeds of worship required of all Muslims who have attained puberty. Women who are having their special days or those who have not fully recovered from childbirth, postpone the fast until they are completely out of their special conditions. Those who are ill or are traveling may choose to postpone their fast and then later fulfill the missed days.

Muslims fast because Allah has commanded them to do so. However, they may also think about the benefits of fasting which may include developing control over hunger and thirst. This also leads to one’s training to be a good moral person and, testing sincerity to the Creator. During the fast, Muslims may conduct their life without the involvement of eating, drinking, or corrupt desires. However, in the Muslim countries working hours are shortened by a couple of hours a day and the hours are changed to make the work comfortable.

The fast is broken immediately after sunset, usually by eating dates and drinking water or juice. However, any lawful food or drink may be used to break the fast. This is followed by the Maghrib (after sunset prayer) which is followed by a complete meal. After a brief rest, Muslims go to the mosque to offer the Isha (night prayer).

For the special occasion of Ramadan special night prayers take place which are called Taraweeh.

 Taraweeh Prayers

In the Holy of month of Ramzan it’s important for every Muslim to leave every thought behind and to think only about Allah 24/7. While fasting or praying, even the wait for Iftar is all about the remembrance of God. There are special prayers by the name for Taraweeh which is held every night in Ramzan and every Muslim is expected to attend these special prayers.

Even though, it is not obligatory for a Muslim to pray at Tarweeh or to attend one, but without a valid excuse one cannot escape from this worship. If one does, he or she will be questioned in the Day of Judgment that why didn’t one practice a strong Sunnah of the Prophet (S.W.S) during the holy month of Ramzan.

The Prophet stated, “Whoever observes night prayer in Ramadan as an expression of his faith and to seek reward from Allah, his previous sins will be blotted out.” (Muslim)

Taraweeh is a special Salah (prayer) consisting of 20 rak’at which is performed immediately after the ‘Isha’ prayer.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam) said, “Allah has made fasting in Ramadan obligatory, and I have made the special prayer of Ramadan (i.e. the Tarawih) a Sunnah”.

Traditionally, a Hafiz of the Quran, a person who has memorized the whole Quran which is in Arabic, leads the prayer. He recites the Quran in small portions, in proper sequence, every night and completes the recitation of the whole Quran before the end of the month of Ramadan. Every Muslim who attends such prayers regularly gets the opportunity of listening to the whole Quran in a month.

If a Hafiz of the Quran is not available, the Muslim who has memorized the most in a group leads the prayer and recites according to his ability. In the absence of a Hafiz, some Muslims hold the Quran in the hand during their salah and read from it. Some Islamic scholars cite the report of the Prophet (P.B.U.H.) that, with the exception of three nights in one Ramadan, he always prayed during the night in his house whether it was Ramadan or not.

Zaid Ali and Varun Pruthi are experts in inspirational videos.” – Gaurav Gera

IndiaTv5f9ec2_gaurav

The internet is bombarding with unusual videos by different people on diverse topics but the most recent one spreading all over the internet are Shopkeeper and Chutki. Gaurav Gera is the mastermind behind all these clips and he has engaged all his viewers to lip sync his humorous jokes. Here he talks about some of his secrets that his fans did not know before.

1. Tell us something about your background as an actor.

I was born in Faridabad which is in Haryana and I spent a lot of time in Gurgaon and also in Delhi. I did a lot of theater in Delhi and Gurgaon after which I shifted to Mumbai, where I started acting but my main background remained theater.

I am also doing TV shows such as ‘Hansi Hi Hansi Mil Toh Lein’ on SAB TV, I am also anchoring a number of shows and I play various different characters in it, the other is ‘Comedy Classes’ on Life OK which is a successful show.

2. How did you come across the idea of creating such characters?

Basically I watch less of TV and movies but I am a big internet freak, so I have been watching lots of international work and I wanted to create something which was different and unique. So I thought of creating a girl, then I created her brother Chutku and with the passage of time, I also thought that a boyfriend would be good or else the story would get very limited between siblings. So I created Suyesh and Shopkeeper just happened, and along the lines the neighbor also came in so it all happened with the importance of story-line.

I play all these characters on my own as it becomes economical for me. I am always with me I don’t have to organize any dates, no tantrums so it’s easier for me to cast myself. I carry the wigs with me at all times hence I am ready to shoot.

3. Explain in detail the unique looks of each of your characters.

I have kept Chutki womanly, who is up-market but doesn’t know how to apply lipstick. Suyesh is deep voiced and a well spoken man who speaks in English and is up-market as well. Whereas with Shopkeeper I tend to create a status difference, he is someone who is not very well-educated and neither a cool dude. I differentiate them with the wigs, I take close shoots and I don’t bother much about the clothes.

4. What is the story behind shopkeeper? Why did you specifically choose that particular occupation as the character?

I choose shopkeeper because he is an important man in everyone’s life. Everyone has to deal with a shopkeeper, whether you order on phone or go personally and it is an indoor thing I don’t need to go outdoors. I don’t need an auto-wala, since Shopkeeper has everything with him. You can buy animals, food and fruits basically anything from him. I’m also thinking of making Chutki buy a plane from him.

There is a lot more to come with Chutki and shopkeeper’s story.

5. Which is your favorite character and why?

I like all the characters basically but Chutki is the main character because she is liked by all. If I make an episode with shopkeeper with Suyesh, the viewers might reject it, but Chutki is the main protagonist who controls the whole show and things are dependent on her. But I like shopkeeper, Suyesh Chutku and Bhuday Uncle also.

6. Share your favorite video with us.

My favorite video is when Chutki goes to the shopkeeper and he has headphones plugged in and after calling out to him numerous times, he listens to her while she gets angry and goes away saying whatever. There is no joke in it but the situation is really cute as many people do this, my driver also does the same thing with me.

Shopkeeper -Whatever !! #chutki #shopkeeper #hainji #gauravgera #whatever #earphones #music

A video posted by Gaurav Gera (@gauravgera) on

The other video is the ass-cream one I think it is so silly where Chutki takes it literally and she is in her own world and doesn’t realize that shopkeeper has a different accent, it’s so bizarre!

7. Are you planning to introduce any new characters?

I will bring in a lot of characters, but not right now but I have to keep rediscovering and introducing new people.

What is the worst and best compliment that you received on your videos?

8. What is the worst and best compliment that you received on your videos?

The best compliment is that people say that they believe that Chutki and shopkeeper are real and I wanted this to happen. I wanted to create something that would be loved by all and it happened. The worst feedback I have ever received is, “Why do you dress up as a girl?” People must look to the brighter side, that I take care of everything from playing other characters in addition to being the writer, editor and director also.

9. Do you ever wish to visit Pakistan or work for Lollywood?

I am quite global in my approach and yes I would love to visit Pakistan. As I have mentioned in my radio interview in Pakistan that my maternal and paternal grandfathers were in Pakistan before partition so I would defiantly love to see how people live there and I have heard that Pakistanis are very loving. I would love to see the beauty there and I have watched a few Lollywood movies that I really liked a lot. I watched them a couple of times I would love to work everywhere.

10. Zaid Ali does inspirational stuff as well apart from comedy. Will you ever try your hand in making videos that have meaning and depth in them, apart from them just containing humor?

I have seen Zaid’s videos, they are really funny and he works really well and yes he does make inspirational work also. We in India have Varun Pruthi who makes inspirational stuff also. I think there are experts who are already making inspirational stuff. But surely I have already made one on exams; I want to play it with humor, nothing heavy at the moment.

11. How does it feel that millions of people across the globe as well as some prominent Bollywood celebrities have recorded their dubsmash based on your popular ‘shopkeeper’ voice over?

It feels awesome seeing celebrities making dubsmash, no one feels that much happy seeing their dubsmash getting made because there are different people in dialogue writing and in creating the whole scene but here, I am the solo person doing all the job and it makes me feel wonderful.

12. Any message that you want to share with the viewers?

Message for all is that we think too much and get stuck in tensions of life; we must focus on something creative and divert our minds. And I like happy faces so keep smiling.

Follow Gaurav Gera on Facebook and Instagram to express this joyful ride with your own eyes.

How to stay hydrated during Ramadan

Frame copy

Water is the most important fluid that replenishes your thirst during Ramadan. Unfortunately though, most people do not drink enough but have only small amounts at Iftar and then forget to drink water until the next day!

Why do we need water?

Our body is made up of 60 to 70% of water and any reduction in your water intake can affect your body’s cells and nerves from functioning properly. It is absolutely essential to balance the loss of water in your body, because dehydration can cause undesirable side effects such as: constipation, headache, dizziness, tiredness and dry skin.

Water is the best remedy!

Unlike water, other fluids contain a lot of sugar and can result in you consuming extra calories, which is not good for one’s health. Drinking too much of the Ramadan drinks and other soft drinks will fill up your stomach and delay your digestion process. Water is the best source for our thirst and health.

Water plays a significant role in weight loss and maintenance, because it helps to get rid of toxins and reduce the feeling of hunger. This is why it is important to drink small quantities of water throughout the night.

How to prevent thirst during fasting?

The food that you eat plays a major role in controlling your thirst while you are fasting. Here are a few pointers:

  • Drink at least eight glasses of water every day. If you are exercising and are outdoors in hot weather, you lose more fluids. So make sure you drink more water.
  • Avoid hot and spicy dishes as it increases thirst.
  • Do not add too much salt to salads and other dishes. Also avoid eating salty foods like salted fish and pickles as they increase the body’s need for water.
  • Eat fresh fruits and vegetables because they are rich in water and fiber. They stay in the intestines for a long time and reduce thirst.
  • Drink fresh fruit juices rather than sweetened juices.
  • Try not to drink large quantities of water all at once or a lot during a meal. Instead drink water between your meals.

Remember:

Drinking iced water to break your fast does not replenish your thirst but can cause your blood vessels to contract and cause indigestion. For this reason, it is recommended you drink water at room temperature or slightly cold.

You need to take extra care of yourself during Ramadan as your digestive system starts working once you break your fast, so start off with a glass of water or two wait for a while and then eat or else all the food will store as fat in you and the digestive system wont process it.

So make proper use of water and consume it as much as you can. Stay healthy!

From Lahore to Karachi, and Karachi to Dubai, who wore what?

jpna leading ladies
Jawani Phir Nahi Aani – #JPNA – a Pakistani star-studded entertainer produced under the banner of Six Sigma Productions & ARY Films, due to release  this Eid-Ul-Azha hosted premieres brimming with glamour in the major cities of Lahore, Karachi and Dubai.

The three premieres were attended by all the big names of film fraternity, the highlight being   Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt from the other side of the border, who had come to Lahore to specially attend the premiere and show his support.

It’s the revival of Pakistani cinema, and it goes without saying that this revival bolsters the success of our very own fashion houses as well! The cast of Jawani Phir Nahi Aani looked extremely amazing; the costumes were spot on and made to perfection. The cast and especially the female actors looked gorgeous as ever. It is going to be a visual treat to see so many good looking people share the screen.

The fashion divas not only look gorgeous in the movie, but they also made a statement at each premiere!

Ali Xeeshan’s latest showstopper, Sohai Ali Abro flaunted her ‘Fair and Lovely ka jalwa’ wearing his design and selected another extravagant piece for the first premiere in Lahore.  Her second pick was a Feeha Jamsheed green overlapping hourglass dress for the Karachi premiere, and there’s not much we can say but WOW!

sohai green

Our favorite ‘billi’, Mehwish Hayat sizzled on the Lahore red carpet in a beautiful HSY gown and picked a stunning Nomi Ansari dress for Karachi. This woman flaunted gradients on both the events and she sure made them look great! Her final pick for Dubai was Amato Couture and damn did she look gorgeous.

Our very own doe-eyed beauty, Ayesha khan was spotted looking chic in a Shehla Chatoor outfit in Lahore, while she saved the best for the last, making up for disappointing us in Karachi. She graced the Dubai red carpet looking ravishing in a Sana Safinaz outfit, which made us totally forget what she wore before.

The sensuous Sarwat Gillani picked Sania Maskatiya for Lahore and an exquisite Shela Chatoor number from her magnum creation for the Dubai premier.

Uzma Khan wore TenaDurani and Cross-stitch, and we absolutely LOVED her look in Dubai!

Give Your Worries a Break Because Jawani “Waqai” Phir Nahi Ani

Enjoy the biggest entertainer of the season and leave your brain and its worries outside the theatre.

Released under a gigantic label, with a huge star cast and exotic locations, Jawani Phir Nahin Ani (JPNA) is without a doubt this season’s biggest blockbuster.

The film lives up to the expectations of the audience and scores well on many levels. With some exceptional performances, glamour and a healthy dose of laughter, this one will have you falling off of your seats in enjoyment. It is safe to call JPNA a super hit success. It has set a new box office record in Pakistan, as the film earned more than Rs. 20.7 million on its opening day, as reported by ARY News.

jpna1

As with all big-budget masala movies, rumors and controversies were at large during the release of the film. However, this just had audiences flocking to their nearest theatres to find out what the hullabaloo was about after all. Working in favour of the film, this managed to be a win-win situation as movie-goers left the cinema halls feeling light and de-stressed. It is a laugh-out-loud comedy with just the perfect feel-good factor for Eid, as so many would agree.

The story revolves around a lawyer, Sherry (Humayun Saeed), who returns to Pakistan after living for years in America, to find that his three best friends are now not so happily married husbands.

jpna2

Sherry manages to organize a boys-only trip to Bangkok for his squad, a chance to relive their jawani, but little does he know that this might actually be the end to his own freedom, because this is where Mehwish Hayat enters, the daughter of an underworld Don, who falls for him. The plot thickens as his friends’ wives find out what they’ve been up to. With his three friends’ marriages falling apart, Sherry himself packs his bags and heads to Lahore to marry a billionaire’s daughter played by Sohai Ali Abro. When Mehwish arrives in Lahore to claim her prince, chaos ensues.

jpna3

Writer Vasay Chaudry, who also plays one of Sherry’s friends, has jam-packed the script with self-aware one-liners, references to Pakistani pop culture and comical situations. Actor Ahmed Ali Butt gets some of the best nonsensical moments, his comedic timing is one of the many acting highlights in the film. JPNA is full of comedy that is guaranteed to make the audience laugh out loud and clap like retarded seals.

butt

One would think a guy flick like JPNA would have little opportunity for female characters, but after watching the film, one has to acknowledge the fact that it’s the women who actually drive the plot.

mehwish

Mehwish Hayat will have you groove to the beat with her effortless moves, and it is a total treat to watch her set fire to the screen. Our ‘Junglee Billi’ sure knows how to get what she wants – attention, men, you name it! Other than that we haveSohai Ali Abro, who wins the leading man’s heart when he returns to Pakistan from his jawani-filled trip. From Fair and Lovely Ka Jalwa to Tarang Hi Tarang, she totally rocks the screen and will have you going OMG OMG and MA MA, as she so often does in the film herself.

jor

Ever seen a pregnant Pathan woman driving a jeep on the silver screen? You will now. Sarwat Gillani gets to do the extraordinary in JPNA as she takes the lead and takes control of her married life with Pathan power! She’s married to Vasay Chaudhry’s character in the film.

sarwat

Ayesha Khan plays Hamza Ali Abbasi’swife and here’s a dialogue by her on-screen hubby to prove the dehshat of a possessive desi wife, “Agar main khwab main bhi kisi larki ko dekh loon to Kubra Cobra ban kar mere saamne aa jati hai”. Lastly we have Uzma Khan, married to the immature character of Ahmed Ali Butt. She’s the one running the show here by assuming the role so typically addressed as ‘man of the house’.

All in all, JPNA is an out-and-out entertainer. An appealing balance of humor, satire and wit, the film is easy on the eyes and a definite crowd-pleaser. Undeniably worth the praise, time and money, it will have you walking out of the theatre in hysterics. 100% paisay-vasool!
